  7.30.02 11:59 PM (Tuesday)  Noogles
Hmm I accidentally typed "noogles" instead of "noodles."

I was stressing out so much this morning because I was dreading going to school, coming home, and trying to finish my AAS midterm in one night... just impossible. Luckily, we got an extension today! Everyone wasn't going to finish by tomorrow, so it was useful. We were all relieved and like "whew!" when Prof. announced the news. However, this means I'm kinda slacking off. But I can't. But I am. Can't wait for this week to be over...

Afterschool I stopped by Chinatown for the usual Vietnamese sandwich but I stopped by Uwajimaya to buy like $10 worth of noodles (those UFO yakisoba bowls and that blue Chinese noodle thingies.) I can go straight home for a while...
7.29.02 9:21 PM (Monday)  More Midterm Stress!
So I stayed up until 3 or so last night working on my midterm, too bad I didn't get much done o_O I woke up all tired today and got to class late (as usual.) We got our midterms back for Econ, I got a 83/90, which is a 3.7! I think that's good. I guess I shouldn't try to be Mr. Dorky-all-4.0's as usual, as long as it's a high 3. something I'll be happy. It is summer after all.

Oh yeah after classes I stopped by Downtown to get new headphones. $30... blech. They're studio headphones, supposedly, or something. The warranty says "does not cover cosmetic damage or damage due to acts of God"... uhh... (it's like, "dangit God, thanks a lot! Now my warranty is void.") Oh well, they better last me a year at least.
  7.28.02 6:23 PM (Saturday)  Pista
Pista was today. Gabino picked me up so we could go, but I had to drop by the library, so we did that first... but the library was closed so we loitered around the stores by Rainer Beach, ie QFC and Rite Aid. So after we went to the library we went to Pista, met up with Tomoki, then it started to rain. Gabino was like "well why don't we just go see the movie now," and we accidentally ditched Tomoki (if it's any consolation, I felt guilty... aah I hate it when ppl ditch me.)

So we went Downtown, to Meridian 16, and saw Austin Powers 3, Goldmember. It was pretty funny, but not as funny as the 2nd. Nice cameos though. I was stressing out about my AAS 210 midterm the entire time though. During Austin Powers there were these two Japanese twins and their names were "Fook Mi" and "Fook Yu," I couldn't help but think "DAMMIT THATS INACCURATE!" And yeah. Now I gotta stress out more about this midterm...
7.25.02 11:04 PM (Thursday)  Pump it Up
So I skipped Econ today to go play Pump it Up with Gil since it's his last day. Too many arrows... And his friend Eric got into this fight with some ghetto kids. So afterwards Gil, Grace, and I went to eat lunch in the remodeled HUB area of the UW (hard to believe they've remodeled it since last year...)
  7.24.02 3:09 PM (Wednesday)  Midterms
Hmm. So I had my Psych test #2 yesterday, which was hectic because I was rushing as I left the house and forgot to bring one of the scantrons for the test, so I rushed to the U Bookstore to get one before the test started o_O It was hard, I didn't study too well, I don't care because I will definitely try harder for test #3... We also got our AAS 210 midterms yesterday, they're supposed to be at least 15 or so pages long typed single-spaced O_O O_O O_O Gotta start that soon.

Today I had Econ midterm. I actually didn't study at all, and I wasn't worrying too much. That mentality I think helped. I crammed in the break between Psych and Econ, and I think I did just fine.

So two down, one to... type.
7.22.02 5:47 PM (Monday)  AP scores
 US History - 4
 Biology - 4
 English Language - 3
 Calculus AB- 4
 Statistics - 5

AAAHH! I'm mediocre. I really thought I would do better in English Language, I really wanted a 5 in US History, and I thought I would get a 2 in Bio, not having taken the class and all o_O HOW COULD'VE I GOTTEN A 4 IN BIO BUT A 3 IN ENGLISH?! I BSed both sets of free response questions, but I had a little more confidence in my answers for the English one than the Bio one... the Bio one was 4 questions and I didn't even do the first one o_O And I didn't use any terminology whatsoever O_o (wellll... except for that one question on comparative anatomy. At least Marine Science was good for something...) At least I did as well as I would've liked in Calc and Stats. Goodbye Advanced Standing Harvard...

Still, the US History test was the only one that counted towards my GPA (Calc would've counted... but I had an A in that class) so in that sense, it's all good.

This week really sucks. It seems as if though my stomach doesn't process food anymore, and this morning the Civic was stolen, and we have all these problems with renters at the other house. And midterms. But I will persevere... (I hope)
7.21.02 10:09 PM (Sunday)  Bon Odori, Part 2
I woke up feeling really really sick, and cold. I think it was because I had waited until night to drink something yesterday.. I had a craving for Thai Iced Tea the whole day and did not quench this thirst until the night.

So I stayed in bed for like 3 or 4 hours, then I got my lazy ass up and took a hot bath which made me feel a little better. It sucked because I was hungry yet I didn't have the will to eat, but I was thirsty as heck.

So yeah I left for Downtown looking for new headphones, but couldn't find any in my price range... on the other hand I bought a shirt at Old Navy and was like "hmm maybe I'll wear this." Also, it occurred to me I wasn't wearing any deodorant, so I bought some at the Downtown Rite Aid. I also bought some water as to not be deprived of water anymore...

Uhh after that I went to Pacific Place, to the bathrooms, to put on the deodorant and change. Yeah...

Next came the bus ride from hell. I caught the 14 to Bon Odori, but as we entered Chinatown we made a long stop because of this aggressive dude in a wheelchair. I also noticed a guy with vinyl blow up things outside, he was blowing up a Buttercup doll from the Powerpuff Girls and then he started licking and kissing the doll o_O To top it all off, the bus driver started singing Tony Bennet.

So I finally got off, walked a little and met up with Anna and her friend Allison. Allison is Korean, and she reminds me a lot of Leanne and Diana (the to-be junior...) But yeah we chilled a little at Bon Odori and met up with Tomoki and two of his friends (he never introduced us though... hmm) and I saw Annabel and Third! We decided to go see the Seafair Chinatown parade, so we walked a little to Jackson, got some food, found a good place to sit, then patiently awaited the parade.

The parade was kinda boring, the best attraction was this drill team dressed in red. Oh yeah some doof also spilled a coke can from the balcony above where Anna and I were sitting, which made us both wet, and we were pissed.

After the parade ended we headed back to Bon Odori for the last three dances of the year. Now I'm tired as heck... don't wanna go back to school tomorrow, but I'll get tons of rest. (not to mention a Psych test Tuesday, Econ and Asian-American Identity mideterms on Wednesday...) argh.
7.20.02 11:16 PM (Saturday)  The Bite and Bon Odori
So much stuff went down today..

Morning I went to the Bite with Gabino. We were supposed to see Khaliun and them down there but they weren't there... what's up with that. It was crappy. $4 strawberry shortcake, which didn't taste as good for some reason. On the other hand, I did see April perform live and I got a pic and poster w/ her! So that was a plus. Unlike stupid Michelle Branch from last year..

Hmm so. I felt really bad cuz I had to lie to Gabino about why I had to leave early... sorry Gabino I just didn't know if I could invite you or not... but yeah Gabino dropped me off Downtown where I caught the bus tunnel to Chinatown. At Chinatown Eric and I ate at the Thai restaurant, and he was like "oh we're supposed to meet David and Raymond down at Alki." So we went down there.

Nothing eventful at Alki..

Back to Chinatown. We met Tomoki and Anna at Pho Bac, went to Bon Odori and it was pretty fun. We met up with Jeffo and saw Mika, Lauren, and Christine.. we watched the Taiko drumming, it was pretty interesting, did most of the dances, and it was overall good times. Lori Matsukawa of KING-5 fame sat behind me during one of the taiko performances! O_O Afterwards we stopped by Uwaji to get some Thai Iced Tea, the one in the monster can, that I'd had a craving of but they had none left... I was pissed but oh well.
7.19.02 6:56 PM (Friday)  Econ Quiz #4: Specialization and trade
I think I did okay...
7.18.02 6:00 PM (Thursday)  New headphones anyone?
Aaahh. So I went to school today and I was listening to my music on my CD player. Then I went into Psychology. We watched this good film about this experiement done a long time ago where the experimenter got two people, and made one of them teacher and the other one learner (this was rigged, the learner was always the same.) The teacher had to teach word pairs to the learner... if the learner didn't give the right answer, the teacher had to administer some kind of shock. The learner always gave the same set of answers for each teacher. The experimenter then saw how much it took for the teacher to stop, although most of the teachers went to the full voltage level (the shocks weren't actually administered to the learner, however).

The conclusion was simple and scary: most people obey authority even at the expense of other ppl's lives. Hmm...

Oh yeah but that's not the point of my entry. So after Psych I put on my headphones and nothing was coming through the left headphone! I was like "WTF" and I kept twiddling and fidgeting with the cord; sometimes I could get sound to blast through but I realized my headphones were just flat out broken. It's only been 1 1/2 years too... more expenditures... hmm.
7.18.02 12:51 AM (Thursday)  Life update
These past three days... something inside's me changed.

It's just kinda depressing. I was thinking about middle school, and how my circle of friends was completely different than in the first part of high school... and now everything's changed again. I don't transition easily. When something changes I get so caught up in the past. I'm learning not to dwell so much on it.

Still, it's been hard not having someone who I can talk to whenever a problem comes up. When David and I were still friends we would just talk about whatever, and that was really cool. Will we ever patch up our friendship? I hope so, but if not, I won't worry about it. In life sometimes you don't get second chances... and I try to live to my life with no regret. I mean sure mistakes happen but you just learn to live on; dwelling on the past is the only thing I regret. I still value our friendship for what it was.

Something tells me I'll be alright...

But yeah... I've been online a lot lately trying to plan out my weekend. From now on I'll try to hang out with as many of my friends as possible... we only have one more year left! Better make the most of it.

Also... I like smile.dk's version of "Chokotto Love" ("Petit Love") a lot better than the original version by Pucchimoni. That is all.
7.15.02 6:49 PM (Monday)  TWO HOURS EARLY!
I woke up so early this morning for some reason. That's cuz I was exhausted last night. Well... I used this time to get ready really early, so I could go to UW and get some textbook readin' done.

Well as soon as I got on campus I saw Megsie, and we walked to her Chem class and just sat outside b/c she was early too, and started talking about random stuff. Other Chem ppo started coming in as well... d00d, I saw GIL! And Jason too, but he's not that important. Haven't seen them since last year though. Like w00t.

And the schoolday was normal. I was falling asleep as usual by Econ. I'll have to tell Annabel tomorrow about the strange connectionz I made yesterday... maybe she'll think I'm crazy for making such a big deal out of it.
7.14.02 8:32 PM (Sunday)  The most random day ever
I woke up today thinking it'd be a quiet day in Chinatown for the annual Chinatown festival thing. But lots of randomness happened!

Actually I wasn't even sure if today was going to happen. I was supposed to meet Anna Hoang outside the Pit @ 11:00, but I was late 10 minutes. I waited around for what seemed like the longest time, and she finally came!

So we chilled, walked around and surveyed the various booths. We both wanted some food so we decided to head over to the Vietnamese Deli on 12th... which was a walk from the center of Chinatown..

So after that we chilled at the SBK Karaoke section, which was so much like last year... and I saw Tomoki! So I introduced him to Anna, and we all just chilled. After we sang one or two songs Anna had to leave for kendo, but she called her brother to bring her kendo things to Chinatown, because that was where her lesson was... so she stayed for another few hours.

Random people I saw at the festival... Chia-Chi, a facilitator from my UW AAS 210 class, who tried to get me to register to vote but soon found out I was underage. Aww well. Jennifer Vong from school, Jason Maeda who just graduated, Jenny Lu (who I see everywhere, but she never knows who i am), this dude named Roger who I have the feeling I've chatted w/ online before b/c he's a friend of a friend, and yeah.

After a while Anna said she had to go for her lesson, and soonafter Tomoki said he's brb, but I waited for around twenty minutes and wondered what was up with that. I got up and tried to look for people. I wandered around the booths, and I was thinking about going home; I stopped by Uwaji to get a large monster can of Thai Iced Tea, but then I decided to go back to the fair and look for people again. After walking around a bunch I found Tomoki and Anna back at the karaoke station, and Anna could stick around because her brother didn't come to bring her kendo stuff after all... we sat around and chilled again..

There were some funny moments in karaoke. This one Chinese woman who went after me was singing even though they couldn't get the LD to play properly, it was so funny... yet awesome. And this other guy who went after her who sang "Blue (da bu dee)" or whatever that song is, and his monotone voice just killed the chorus, but it was great.

So yeah. After a while Tomoki was like "well why don't we go and see a movie." He had asked Christine and Lauren, two girls he'd only met at a party the night before, to go. And we went to Meridian 16 to see "Collision Course," the Crocodile Hunter movie... we had some time to spare, we stopped at Gameworks for some DDR, and Westlake. That's when we realized none of us really knew each other that well... lol... but that's not the random part.

So Tomoki and Jeffo were part of this Northwest Asian Weekly youth leadership thing, which Chia-Chi had been talking about the week before (which is how I figured out about it.) Tomoki said he also knew my professor because she gave a lecture on one of the days... and then he was talking about Mika's party, which is how he met Lauren, and Mika was also part of this Northwest Asian Weekly thing, even though Lauren and Mika were friends before that? So Tomoki's group leader (or whatever title...) was Third, and he brought his wife along with him to Mika's party, and his wife is Annabel, who is also a facilitator in my AAS 210 class... And Mika is also one of my sister's friends, so she was at the party too o_O Then I found out they knew a ton of Franklin people as well.

That wasn't very organized, and it's seemingly insignificant, but I thought how it was strange we just started hanging out and chatting, and how everything seems so connected. So many connections at the one party that I never would've figured.

So we went to see the movie, which was okay (I got the feeling we were too old, the plot seemed so random and sloppy). After seeing Anna off on her bus, we rode the bus to Chinatown, where I got a ride with Lauren home. Anyways... it was fun meeting Lauren and Christine, it's cool how we just started talking and stuff.. I guess with all the connections we started making it just made us more comfortable.

Wow that was the longest entry I've done in a while...
  7.13.02 9:59 PM (Saturday)  d00d!
SO BORING! This summer has to be the worst one in a while. Today was the Chinatown festival, and no one wanted to go ;_; I stayed home and did nothing. The highlight of my day would've been getting the mail... but when it came there was nothing in the mailbox. Dammit.

So I skipped my first UW class yesterday. I felt so bad... lol. That's the great thing about college, the professors don't give a crap if you skip. At least not in lecture hall. I got to school late yet again, so I skipped Psych to study for Econ quiz. It was all because I was one minute late for the bus in the morning... stupid Metro. The Econ quiz was hard too. Well, whatever...
7.11.02 5:53 PM (Thursday)  Just another week
This week has gone by pretty fast, it'll be over tomorrow...

Uhh, nothing too exciting has happened. Regular schooldays is all. Except today, after being on time three days in a row, I woke up late and left late again (it sucks, to catch the bus to the UW I have to leave the house at least one hour before my first class starts...) I was 20 minutes late to Psych today. I pondered skipping, but decided to drop in on the lecture.

In other developments, I finally gave Khaliun back her UW ID today, after failed attempts the past two days. Lunch @ IHOP, I forgot to thank Dave S. for buying my lunch... then I accidentally stalked them.
  7.8.02 11:23 PM (Monday)  Tired
I stayed up all night last night reading Psych. I was all nervous and tired when I got to school, but luckily the test was easier than I expected. Of course this meant I was falling asleep in Econ.. it's the most tired I've ever felt. On the other hand, a 10/10 on the quiz... ^^

My regular school-time sleeping habits are returning! Maybe I'll go abuse coffee or something.
  7.7.02 1:31 PM (Sunday)  REVELATION
So I was watching this show on tNBC called "SK8" yesterday (yeah it was stupid) but I noticed there was this one character, Dim, who looked very familiar. I couldn't figure out where he was from so I looked on the internet for info about the show, cross-searched his name, and BOOM! He's the guy from this really obscure show that no one probably knows about, Kerrisdale High! Devon Sawa was on that show, if anyone cares. I remember being a big fan of it when I was in middle school because it had Asian characters and I just thought "whoa this is so realistic," even if the acting was really bad. I remember staying up late Sunday nights just to catch it, lol.

It turns out this person (whose real name, I found out, is Jorgito Vargas) isn't even Asian o_O Or he might be, but his name suggests otherwise... still, there was another Asian dude and an Asian girl on the show.

I'm so bored... I should be reading and studying Psych because our first Psych exam is tomorrow. I bought scantrons from the University Bookstore Friday, they were $.40 each o_O Talk about rip-off.
  7.5.02 6:32 PM (Friday)  Bored
So I didn't do anything for the Fourth, and I'm almost certain I wont' do anything today.

On the flip side, I got home really early today because my last class was cancelled (the only one that was...) We had our second quiz in Econ, and I just stayed for that.
7.3.02 4:58 PM (Wednesday)  UW observations
Hmm. I didn't go to Duong's thing today. No ride, and I didn't know where Montlake 9 was.

So I was late for school again, two days in a row, three days total! It's like I was on time all of last week, and late all of this week so far. I have come to a conclusion... I should wake up earlier. Or at least leave the house earlier. Also, whenever I catch the 9:15 Route 48 bus the bus driver always drives really slow. I remember we averaged a speed of about 20 mph, if we passed this speed barrier I was like "YES! NOW WE'RE MOVING!" I got to UW late 10 minutes both day. Not that the professor really cares (well he might) but I don't like missing any of the material--there's a huge difference in just reading the material and being lectured on it as well. It's much easier to digest new stuff having heard about in lecture first, which is kinda obvious.

To everyone going to UW in the future--get cargo shorts and flip flops or sandals. Get really cool shades as well. There's like a certain UW fashion you can't help but notice when you're walking around campus on a sunny day, it's kinda funny. If you're Asian, hang out at Odegaard or By George.

Tomorrow is Independence Day. I didn't journal in what I did last year, nor the year before last, but I remember going to David's house and lighting fireworks at least one of the two years. Or maybe both. I don't know though. I'll probably just stay home.
  7.2.02 8:33 PM (Tuesday)  Today's developments
I will try to implement the more frequent use of colors and styles in here. For instance:

JAPANESE PHRASE OF THE DAY: AMERIKA de rakuda ni atarumono wa RAMA.

I was late for Psych again today, but it's all good, I think. The other thing noteworthy about school was that we have the most interesting Asian discussions in Asian-Am Identity. Today we discussed interracial marriages and everything that went along with that, which was exciting.

So afterschool I went to Chinatown to get lunch, and I had a little bit of cash in my pocket so I decided to get another jpop CD. Well the time came for me to decide between Dancemania Best Red (has all the popular DDR songs on it) or Ketsumeishi - Ketsu no Police 2. The Dancemania Best album was releatively cheaper, $20, but IT DIDN'T HAVE PETIT LOVE! Therefore I bought the Ketsumeishi CD, which is really good (for some reason I have an affinity for j-reggae.)

Also--I bought this nasty Fran-wannabe by a company called "Chocky" (therefore it's also a Pocky rip-off). It was nasty. They recycle the Fran pictures so it's kinda misleading, you think it's going to be crunchy, tasty Fran goodness, but instead it's stale, powdery Chocky nastiness. It's too bad Uwaji doesn't sell Fran anymore (or at least I haven't seen any these last few visits.)

Duong's thing is tomorrow, I wanna go but I'm unsure if I will because I don't have a ride. We'll see.
7.1.02 3:58 PM (Monday)  Pike Place Market
Wow, first day of July.

So... we got our quizzes back in Econ. A 9.8/10! It's actually pretty good, but I couldn't help but feel a little inadequate when I looked at all the other quizzes and they were perfect 10's. Still, it was just because of a stupid addition mistake, nothing conceptual. So that should be good I guess.

After that... oh yeah I bumped into Emily S., who's visiting from Princeton. She informed me the Princeton school board has been taken over the mafia in the last 10 years. Harhar. It wasn't awkward or anything, but it's just strange when you see a friend you haven't seen in a long time and you're talking to them and then you start looking at them and, while they still fit the image of how you remembered them, I dunno... it's subtle differences that make you wonder "hmm, is this still the same person?" Kinda hard to explain...

What else... presentations started in Asian-American Identity. We're such a quiet bunch, I hope I don't stay quiet throughout the course.

After classes I went down to Pike Place Market and waited in line for those donuts, ya know those really greasy ones that are cheap. I bought two dozen but the line was really long, the people ahead of me bought 12 dozen. The same thing happened to me at Ezell's like five months ago. It must be a network of people with large orders specifically targeting out against me and going ONE ORDER AHEAD of me to make me wait and get all impatient.
